Leaving GTMO

Since we moved aboard our first Yacht, the Egg Harbor Inne, we have taken several trips worthy of individual mention.  Many short hops were taken as well but some are lost to History since the loss of my original logbook from the EHI.

The first trip was surely one of the most breathtaking to me.  Myself, my Brother Ken, my brother-in-law Glenn, and the Broker Tom were driven to New Jersey by Dee and Dorian.  There we took possession of the Egg Harbor Inne and got underway to bring her down the Atlantic, up the Delaware Bay and then down the Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk.  There were some very exciting times in those first few days of ownership, and I was lucky enough to share them with some great people.

I think our first trip solely for recreation was taken with my Brother Ken and a "Friend" of his, Gwen.  We followed and then led our good friends, Joel, Donna, Jayne, and their dog, up the James River from Norfolk headed to the Chickahominie River, above Williamsburg.  They were on their sailboat a Bientot

Our second trip on mention was When Dee and I lent Dorian to our good friends, John and Flo Manley, and their girls.  Dorian was just 9 at the time and could do no wrong.  We had friends clamoring to borrow her while Dee and I went south on the boat.  In early 1992 we headed south on the Intracoastal Waterway and went as far south as Fort Fredericka, Georgia.

Our Next trip was a short one and was from Norfolk to Crisfield Maryland for the Egg Harbor Rendezvous.  This trip we accompanied Bruce Robertson and Wes on their 37 Egg Harbor, Lehigh.  Accompanying us were my sons, John and Tom from California.

Our last really long trip was in October 1993.  I retired from the U.S. Navy and we took the boat down the ICW and through Lake Okeechobee up the west coast of Florida and eventually found our way to Pensacola, Florida.  Dee was lucky enough to get orders to teach at the Class "C" school for IM's at Corey Station.

I only made one trip on the Dorian but it was very memorable.  I left Guantanamo Bay in October 2002 accompanied by Chuck Willard a "Captain from Ft Lauderdale.  The trip for me was only 3 days but while completing the trip my 44 GulfStar Ketch hit a reef in the Bahamas and sank.

My next boat was a 1974 40 foot Schucker.  I called her Marguerite.  I began moving her in week long hops from Ft Lauderdale to a marina up the Potomac River.  These trips are under "Move Marguerite".
